A Conversation About "The Medicated Child"
An Educational Series Designed to Empower & Encourage Parents
In tribute to the memory of Phoenix Marie and the children she left behind
8/27/1980 - 6/19/2009
Whether you have loved ones with ADD, ADHD, Bipolar or other psychiatric conditions, raising our awareness to the vast array of treatments is necessary. This issue challenges our schools and our families and demands the medical community respond appropriately.
On May 17, 2011 Children's Dental Village assembled a diverse panel of experts for a rich interaction regarding behavioral, psychiatric and developmental issues with children. The panel brought up-to-date knowledge concerning ADD, ADHD, Bipolar or other psychiatric conditions plaguing our children and families. They prompted discussions to help to structure well-crafted solutions to care for our most precious resource - our children.
The event began with a viewing of the documentary “The Medicated Child” followed by an opportunity to visit vendors who specialize in children. The program included an introduction by Joyce Anne Longfellow and a greeting by Naomi Rhode who both explained the inspiration behind the “Medicated Child” event, shared their stories and what the hope was for Consider This event.
The panel discussion was facilitated by Norma Strange and the panel included:
- Dr. Bob Klaehn, M.D., AZ Department of Economic Security Medical Director for the Division of Developmental Disabilities and Board Certified Child Psychiatrist.
- Dr. Doris Rapp, M.D., Board-Certified in Pediatrics, Allergy and Environmental Medicine; Author of bestselling book "Is This Your Child?”
- Dr. Matt Mannino, Chiropractor
- Ray Mota, Managing Partner ACG Research, Speaker and Author of "Maximum Ability".
- Dale Shelton, Special Education Teacher, Gilbert Public Schools
- Amber McAllan, Communications Coordinator, Children's Dental Village and mom to a 9 year old son with multiple disabilities
The Medicated Child Consider This series concluded with a question and answer period to open the forum for discussions and solutions for those in attendance.
