After your braces are removed, you will need to wear a retainer to hold your teeth in their new position. You may have one or two retainers. They are made of plastic, metal or both and may be removable or fixed in place. It is very important to wear your retainers exactly as directed or teeth could start moving requiring further orthodontic treatment.
Tongue thrusting and thumbsucking can cause movement to a patient’s teeth that may cause teeth to project forward from the mouth. Corrective appliances can be used to help patients break a habit and realign teeth back to a more symmetrical profile.
